Update #23

Nick went in for surgery this morning and had a feeding tube inserted. They did this so he’d receive better nourishment, which will allow them to fully take him off the ventilator, which they hope will happen the middle of next week. He did fine through the surgery.

The cool thing about all this – and this is a direct answer to a prayer of Lisa’s – is that this surgeon, when he does these surgeries, always puts a band around the top of the stomach. This is so those who are immobile won’t vomit and choke to death. But Nick’s doctors talked him out of the doing that, as they are leaning toward a full recovery! How encouraging is that?!

White and red blood cell counts are way back up, so he’s off those meds now.

Nick remains in the coma, with very subtle improvements.

Please pray for strength and endurance for all involved…

Dear Nick and family,
I'm so grateful to be able to follow your progress. I know that it is slow, but I continue to stand on GOD'S WORD, that it is certain (Jeremiah 29:11). As I was praying for you today, I kept thinking of how exhausted you all must be. So I asked Jesus to grant you an extra dose of His strength. I was immediately reminded of Isaiah 30:31- "But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint." As I continued to pray, I was led to two more beautiful promises, which I have claimed for you. (Jeremiah 30:17) Nick-"I will give you back your health, and heal your wounds, says the Lord..." (Psalm 40:3) "He has given (the Brinkerhoffs) a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to their God. Many will see what He has done for (Nick) and be amazed. And they will put their trust in the Lord." Even though we've never met, I know we are one, in Christ Jesus, Our Lord. And it is a blessing to help you carry this burden.
Believing with you,
Charla
